With a few exceptions, the school mirrors the school year calendar of the Iowa City Community School District. Arrival and dismissal times are staggered (times below are approximate).
Mornings: 8:45-11:45
Afternoons: 12:45-3:45
Full Day: 8:30-3:30
Children may attend five mornings, five afternoons, or five full days per week. Children attending full-day will have a rest time after lunch, as required by the Department of Human Services. Preschool children must be three years of age and toilet-trained.
8:30-3:15
The elementary program is designed to meet the needs of children as they move from the concrete learning of preschool into more abstract thinking. The emphasis is on problem-solving and creative thinking as opposed to rote memorization of facts. Elementary children must be six years of age by September 15. Typically a child must have attended a Montessori preschool.
The dates for summer school are June 14 through July 28, 2006. We are offering 3-6 year-olds full-day, morning or afternoon classes, all at five days per week. For 6-9 year-olds we will offer half-day morning and full-day elementary camps, all at five days per week. 6-9 year-olds can attend the entire summer session, or can attend one or more of three two-week camps. The summer program will include opportunities for early drop-off, extended day, and lunch.
11:45-12:45
The school's cook prepares a balanced and nutritious lunch which is served family style. The menu for the month is posted in the school's entryway. Elementary children may bring their own lunches.
7:30-8:30
Early morning drop-off is available, primarily for full-day students.
3:30-5:30
The Extended Day Program provides after-school care.
